Youngstown, OH. – Day two of the YSU Mid College Major kicked off Saturday from the WATT at Youngstown State. The Wheeling University Women's Indoor Track & Field team wrapped up their second day at the event, competing in mine different events. The biggest was the debut of the 4x400 Meter Relay as the Cardinals had two teams running in their season debut.
It was the final event of the day for the Cardinals and the field was separated into four heats. Competing in the first heat was the team of
Caroline Fodor,
Jenay Soumahro,
Susan Trammel,
Ka'niya McGowan as Wheeling's A team. The foursome would finish with the third fastest time of the day, running a 4:06.27. Up next in the fourth heat was Wheeling's B team, consisting of
Deja Ryals,
Kimora Ward,
Keala McCurry, and
Heaven Jackson. They would end up being the fastest team in that fourth heat and placed 10th overall with a time of 4:18.68. it was a strong start to the relay scene for the team as they look to continue to build off of their success.
On the track, the leading competitor for the Cardinals was junior
Isha Sesay, who competed in the 60-Meter Hurdles. She placed second overall with a time of 8.91 seconds and placed in the top two for the third time in four events.

Jenay Soumahro also finished in the top ten, placing fifth (9.36) and ninth (9.42) respectively. The Cardinals got another top ten finish in the mid distance events Senior
Caroline Fodor took on the 800-Meter for the first time this season. She would place 7th in the field with a time of 2:22.18 to get started strong in the event. The Women's Mile saw the first PR of the day as
Sophia Tomana competed. She set a new collegiate PR with a time of 6:12.31 as she kicked off 2023 on a strong note.
The mid distance events continued with the 400-Meter run with
Delaney Miller and Bre'Ya Clopper competing. Miller led the way with a 49th place finish (1:06.39) while Clopper finished 54th (1:07.57). McGowan was back for the 200 Meter Dash and picked up the fourth top 10 finish of the day for Wheeling. She finished 6th with a time of 25.68 while
Heaven Jackson (19th/26.35) and
Susan Trammel (22nd/26.54). The field events saw the Cardinals compete in two different events.
Kamille Graham led the way in the Shot Put, placing 22nd with a distance of 10.93 meters. JaLynn McClarren and
Liz Salas rounded out the day in the Women's Unseeded High Jump. Salas led the way with a 16th place finish (1.36 meters) while McClarren jumped a height of 1.36 meters as well to finish 21st.
The Wheeling University Women's Indoor Track & Field team is back in action on Friday, February 3rd, when they take part in the two day Ashland Jud Logan Invitational.
