Wheeling, W. Va. – The 2023 portion of the schedule kicked off for the Wheeling University Men's Swimming team on Friday night. They got a bonus home meet, taking on Salem, and although they didn't win the team score they had a lot of strong swims in the pool. Ethan Banks and Nathan Yost each pulled off second place finishes on the day and each swam in three events.

Ethan Banks began the day swimming in the 1650 Freestyle as he showed off his distance swimming. It would turn out to be his best swim of the night, as he finished second with a time of 18:12.46. Banks has had success in the distance game throughout his Wheeling career and he once again showed that he can perform against some of the top swimmers in the country. His other two events saw him swim in the short distance events in the 50 Yard Freestyle and the 100 Yard Freestyle. He would end fourth in the 50 Yard Freestyle (24.95) and fifth in the 109 Yard Freestyle (54.84). Banks is the veteran presence on the men's team as he looks to continue to lead them towards the MEC Championships.

Nathan Yost was the other male swimmer to take the pool, and also showed his chops in the distance swimming game. His third place finish came in the 500 Yard Freestyle, an event he has been featured in several times this season. He would post one of his better times of the season, placing second with a time of 1:52.32. He joined Banks in the 100 Yard Freestyle before that and finished ahead of Banks with a fourth place finish posting a time of 52.94. Yost's last event of the day was the first that he swam in in the 200 Yard Freestyle. This was where he secured his second place finish, beating out two Salem swimmers. He swam a time of 1:52.31 as he capped off a strong meet in the pool for the Cardinals.
