The Wheeling Men's and Women's Swimming Teams return to action for the third straight week this weekend, as they host their first home meet of the season. The Men are undefeated to start the season, cruising to two straight meet wins against the conference. The Women are also off to a strong start, taking third in their first relay meet before getting on the board with a win last week at the WV Small College Games. Saturdays opponents will be Frostburg State and West Virginia Wesleyan, with Saturday being the third straight week the 3 programs have competed together.
Last time out at the WV Small College State Games, Wheeling Men's Swimming had three of the top seven performances on the day. Topping the points for the Cardinals was Nikola Zhekov, with a time of 27 flat in the 50 yard Breaststroke to take Silver. Bence Nagy and Efe Kucuk took the sixth and seventh best performances of the meet, as Nagy took Gold in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 4:50.40, and Kucuk took bronze in the 50 Breaststroke with a 27.72.
Giulia Liberti brought the top Cardinal performance last weekend, with her 32.35 in the 50 Breaststroke good enough for a Gold and the 8th best performance in the meet. Not far behind Liberti in the same event was Greta Lovas, as she swam a 32.61 to take the 12th best meet performance.
The Men and Women combined for a total of 11 Gold medals in last weekends meet, and both teams comfortably secured the win on the weekend. Both teams will be back competing Saturday for a tri-meet with Frostburg and West Virginia Wesleyan, with the gun for first race going off at 4pm.
