Three Wheeling Women’s Track & Field Athletes Earn USTFCCA All Region Honors

Wheeling, W. Va. – On Wednesday, the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coach's Association releases their annual Outdoor Track & Field All Region teams. The Wheeling University Women's Track & Field team had three athletes make the list as Isha Sesay (100 Hurdles), Keala MacCurry (Pole Vault), and Caroline Fodor (800) were all named to the team. The Cardinals finished fourth this season in the Mountain East Conference (MEC), but these three ladies stood out leading the way for their team throughout the season.

Headlining the list is sophomore Pole Vaulter Keala McCurry, who continued her strong performance in indoor season as the meets moved outside. She won her first collegiate MEC Championship in the indoor MEC Championships, and consistently jumped to a height of 3.40 or higher throughout the season. She was the MEC's leading jumper heading into the MEC Championship with a Personal Best of 3.65 during the regular season. She would take that lead into the championship and picked up her second individual MEC Championship mark of the season when she jumped A new PR of 3.75 meters and jumped .55 meters higher than the second closest competitor. She competed in the Lee University Last Chance meet, but just fell short of being invited to the NCAA Regional Championship.

Next on the list for the Cardinals was Isha Sesay in the 100-Meter Hurdles, earning her second All-Region honor of the season. Sesay was the top sprinter for the Cardinals women's track team this season and entered as one of the favorites in the 100-Meter Hurdles. She ended up finishing 5th at the MEC Championships, but her best performance came in the 4x100 Meter Relay. She joined Jenay Soumahro, Daja Ryals, and Kimora Ward and came in third place at the meet with a new personal best of 50.01 seconds. Sesay broke the 15 second mark on several occasions in the 100-Meter Hurdles and helped the young Cardinals as they continue to grow and mature in their events.

Rounding out the threesome was senior Caroline Fodor, who would also be taking home her second USTFCCCA award of the season. Fodor had a strong season running in both the distance and mid-distance events. She was looking for her second straight MEC Championship in the 800-Meter, but fell just short finishing in second place. Even so, she had a strong performance at the event and even broke the meet record in the event. She finished second with a time of 2:17.85 and was just a few tenths of a second behind the leader. Fodor wrapped up a strong Cardinals career with the effort and completed a year in which she ran Across Country for the first time in her career while also taking part in Track & Field.

The Wheeling Women's Track Team now looks ahead to next season as they look to grow and come back one year stronger in 2022-2023.
