Reeves/Taylor Wrap up National Championship Experience with Pair of Second-Team All-Conference

Allendale, MI. – Over the last three days, the Wheeling University Men's Track & Field team competed at the 2022 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championship. Sophomore Jabez Reeves was competing in the 100-Meter Dash and sophomore Andrew Taylor competed in the High Jump, both competing in the outdoor Nationals for the first time in their careers. While they didn't bring home National Championships, the pair did bring home awards as both earned second team All-American honors after finishing top 10 in their respective events.

Day one saw Reeves compete in the first heat of the 100-Meter Dash qualifier as he ran against some of the best in the Nation. He would break the Wheeling University School record on that day, running a 10.37 seconds and finishing third in his heat. He ended up running the eighth fastest time of all competitors and made his way to the final on Saturday. Across the board, every runner posted a slower time in the finals than they did in the preliminaries and Reeves was no exception. He would finish ninth in the final event, but was able to secure the Second-Team All-American award. It was the first All-American award of Reeves's career and put a bow on what would be a big year for the sophomore.

Andrew Taylor was coming off of a record breaking performance of his own at the 2022 Mountain East Conference (MEC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships. He became the first athlete in the events history to jump seven feet and won the event with a PR of 2.15 meters. This time around, he would have to break that PR to have a chance at the National Title and he came close to doing just that. He reached the 2.13 meter mark on his first try, but was unable to successfully clear the 2.16 meter mark, ending his day. It was a big improvement season for Taylor, after not placing at the MEC Championships last season to finding his way on the All-American list this season. He continues to work throughout the off-season as he tries to become a star both on the court for basketball and in the field for track for years to come.

The Wheeling University Athletic Department now has had three players named to All-American teams this season. The first All-American of the season was Wheeling Rugby's Chief Chipfumbu, who earned the NCR DI Rugby All-American award. Taylor and Reeves have both had outstanding years for the Cardinals in their sophomore season and join a very exclusive group of athletes this season.

The Wheeling Men's Track & Field team now heads to the off-season as they look to build off a successful campaign.
