Big Day for Jumpers Leads Men’s Track at Lee Last Chance Meet

 Cleveland, TN. – Some of the best athletes on Division II Track & Field Converged on Cleveland, Tennesee for on last shot to qualify for the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships. Nine members of the Wheeling Men's Track & Field team were among those participants, competing across nine different events, many defending titles from the 2022 Mountain East Conference (MEC) Championships. It was a big day for the Cardinals jumpers as they led the way with big performances across the board.

The day began with the High Jump as Andrew Taylor and Brian Vandusen competed after finishing first and second at the MEC Championship. Taylor would finish third at the event, jumping 2.06 meters, while Vandusen also cleared the 2.00 meter mark and finished sixth at the event. Vandusen was back at it a few events later when he defended his Men's Long Jump MEC Championship. He would fall short of the seven foot mark, but finished in the top 20 at 6.83 Meters. In the days final Field event, Daimar Ivey finished things strong for the jumpers with a top 10 finish in the triple jump. He finished tenth overall at the event, with a distance of 14.11 meters.

After the jumpers were done, the attention turned to the track for the final six events of the day. Jabez Reeves kicked things off competing in the 100-Meter Dash and qualifying for the semifinals with a third place finish. He ran the Qualifier in 10.44 seconds and was one of the top eight times to move on to the semifinals. He would run again in the semifinals, but that is where his day would end when he ran a 10.58. He then rounded out his day running in the Men's 200-Meter a few events later. He finished 10th overall with a time of 21.46 seconds as he finished a strong day on the track. Reeves was also part of the Men's 4x100-Meter relay team that finished eighth at 41.50 seconds.

The Cardinals kept things going on the track when Lorenzo Pelham and Julian Griffin running in the 110-Meter Hurdles. Both had top ten finishes, with Griffin finishing fifth at 14.34 seconds and Pelham finishing seventh at 14.60 seconds. TJ Tindal was up next as he defended his MEC Championship in the 400-meter dash and he finished 12th at 48.24 seconds. Rounding out the day was distance runner Izaiha Browning in the Men's 5000 Meter run. The freshman ran a 15:42.17 while picking up a 62nd place finish in the field.

The Wheeling University Men's Track & Field team now awaits their fate as they see who gets chosen to compete at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor National Championship.
