Lewisburg, PA. – On Friday, the Bison Outdoor Classic opened up with the distance runners and jumpers featured. The Wheeling University Men's & Women's Track & Field team competed in several of the day one events as they continue to prepare for the 2022 Mountain East Conference (MEC) Championships in May.
The day began with a bang in the Men's Long Jump as senior
Brian Vandusen put together the best performance of the day. After breaking the seven meter mark last week, Vandusen set a new outdoor PR in the Long Jump with a distance of 7.30 meters. He hit the mark on his first jump of the day and was the top distance among Division II competitors at the event. He was just .38 meters off the mark of Youngstown State's Tye Hunt for the top distance in the film. He beat his previous mark by .13 meters from last week at the IUP Ed Fry Invitational as he continues to build and become one of the top outdoor competitors for the Cardinals this season.
On the women's side,
Tara Perry competed in the long jump and finished 47th in the field with a distance of 4.98 meters. Like Vandusen, Perry also hit her top distance of the day on humor number one as the jumpers ended their day on a strong note. The throwers would round out day one's field events as
Kamille Graham competed in the Women's Discus Throw. She would finish 37th in the field with a distance of 31.12 meters as she set a new season high for the event. As the field events were going on, things moved to the track as the distance runners were in action for the Cardinals. Many of the sprinters and mid-distance runners will compete on day two of the event as the distance runners began things.
The only Men's track event of the day saw Wheeling compete in the Men's 3,000 Meter Steeplechase.
Izaiha Browning competed for the Cardinals and is having a strong outdoor season to this point. Browning finished 24th in the field with a time of 9:38.12 as he began the meet on a high note. On the women's side,
Savanaugh Anderson and
Caroline Fodor were both in action for the Cardinals. Anderson competed in the Women's 10K race and finished 27th overall with a time of 19:12.46, just 2 seconds behind the 26th place finisher. The day wrapped up with the women's 1500-Meter as
Caroline Fodor competed. She finished 50th overall in the field with a time of 4:54.52 to round out the day for the Cardinals.
Day two of the Bison Outdoor Invitational will begin Saturday with the field events beginning at 9:30 AM followed by the Track events at 10:30 AM.
