Wheeling, W. Va. – With the wet weather continuing to push through West Virginia on Tuesday, the Wheeling Baseball team has announced a change to their upcoming schedule. Their non-conference game against Clarion that was originally scheduled for Tuesday has been postponed to Wednesday with first pitch at 3 PM
The Cardinals are coming off their Mountain East Conference (MEC) North Division Opener when they took on Fairmont State in a four-game series. After the first game saw the Falcons pick up a walk-off win on Sunday, the Cardinals came back to win the second game 5-4 to earn a split of day one. They eyed a similar result as they headed towards day two, but it wasn't meant to be as the Falcons picked up a pair of wins. In game three of the series, Fairmont State added a 6-2 win to their tally before sweeping the second day's doubleheader with a 12-4 win. It moved the Cardinals to an even 8-8 in MEC play this season as they look to bounce back when they return to their home field this coming weekend to take on the division leading Frostburg State o ln Friday and Saturday.
Before that happens, the Cardinals will take on their Atlantic Regional foe Clarion, the third different opponent from the PSAC that they will face this season. It will also be the team's first single, nine-inning, game that they have played since back on March 6th when they played a nine-inning game against Mercyhurst in Salem, West Virginia. With their sites still set on making the 2022 Atlantic Regional Tournament next month, games like Wednesday's are extremely important for the Cardinals as they try to boost their stock in region play and find a way to make it as one of the top eight seeds from the Atlantic Region.
First pitch for Wednesday's game against Clarion is scheduled for 3 PM at the J.B. Chambers I-470 Baseball Complex.
