Men's Golf Finishes 12th at Mid Pines Invitational

Mid Pines, NC. - The Wheeling University Men's Golf team wrapped up the final day of play at the Mid Pines Invitational in Mid Pines, North Carolina on Tuesday afternoon. They finished 12th as a team with a two-round score of 675 on the par 72 course. Sophomore Yadhu Urs led the way, finishing 11th in the field as the team uses this spring season to continue to grow their young golfers and get them more experience heading into the 2022-2023 season.

After shooting just one over par on the first day of competition, Urs came back with a similarly good day in his second day on the course. The front nine was once again friendly to the sophomore, as he shot on par through the first nine holes of the course. He finished the front nine with two birdies but suffered a double bogey on the eighth hole that brought his score back to even. On the back nine, Urs was even on six of the nine holes, but a trio of bogeys brought his score to three over par. He finished three strokes behind what he shot on day one, but managed to climb two spots on the leaderboard, finishing just outside the top 10 of the event.

The biggest improvement from day one to day two for the Cardinals came courtesy of sophomore Austin Panhorst, who dropped three strokes on his second day. He started day two off strong with a birdie on hole #1 that dropped him to seven over par for the entire event. It was one of two birdies for Panhorst on the front nine as he shot +2 to begin his second round, scoring two birdies, three pars, and four bogeys on the day. However, the back nine was not as kind to Panhorst as he hit just two pars on the final nine holes as well as six bogeys to bring his score to 82 on the day. It was the best showing of the season so far for Panhorst as he finished tied for 58th in the field.

One of the guys he was tied with was his own teammate Hunter Travis, who also finished the day with a score of 82. He equaled his first day output and had a birdie and eight pars to bring his score to +10 for the second round. The field was rounded out by freshman Blake Ring-Fish and Alex Parker, who finished 67th and 68th respectively. Parker had a pair of birdies on the day but finished day two with an 87 while Ring-Fish added a 94 to round out the day. As a team, Wheeling dropped their score from 349 on day one to 326 on day two as they made those little advancements to improve their team.

The Wheeling University Men's Golf team will return to action on Sunday, March 27th, when they head to the three-day Charleston Invitational hosted by The University of Charleston.
