Wheeling, W. Va. - On Monday, the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced their weekly NCAA Division II Rankings. After another strong week at the Ashland Alumni Invitational, the Wheeling University Men's Track & Field team ranked fourth in the region. They had several top performers at the event, and one individual champion in the 400-meter dash earning them their fourth-place ranking.
Wheeling competed in the Ashland Alumni Invitational as the Eagles opened their Niss Athletic Center, and it was a big day for the Cardinals. Jabez Revees continued his dominance of the 60-meter dash, finishing third with a time of 7.67 seconds. It was the third time this season that Revees has broken the school record, with the previous mark being set at the YSU Mid-College Major at 7.81 seconds. He moved into the top 10 in the NCAA in the 60-meter dash as he prepares for the NCAA Indoor National Championships in Pittsburg, Kansas.
However, Wheeling's lone individual championship came in the 60-meter hurdles, where
Julian Griffin took home his first individual championship of the season. Griffin ran the race in 8.16 seconds in the preliminary rounds and qualified for the finals with the top time in the prelims. He came out for the finals event and equaled his preliminary time setting a new PR in the 60-meter hurdle. He beat the field by .09 seconds in the event giving himself the top time for any Wheeling Men's 60-meter hurdler this season.
The Cardinals picked up other top-six finishes in the Men's 400-meter, Men's 200-meter, and the Long Jump throughout the day.
Brian Vandusen placed second in Long Jump (7.01 meters), Reeves placed fourth in the 200-meter (21.78), and
Jacob Pielech finished sixth with a PR in the 400-meter (49.07 seconds). It was a strong showing for the Cardinals as they prepare for the MEC Championships in just two weeks in Huntington, West Virginia.
The Cardinals received 167.11 points in this week's poll, finishing just two points ahead of East Stroudsburg for the number four spot in the region. They were the second-highest finisher among Mountain East Conference opponents, with The University of Charleston taking the #2 spot in the rankings.
