Another School Record Earns Jabez Reeves MEC Indoor Athlete of the Week

Wheeling, W. Va. - Over the course of the season, Wheeling University Men's Track & Field Athlete Jabez Reeves has been getting better and better each meet. He has broken and set the Wheeling University school record in the 60-meter dash three different times this season and was at it again on Saturday at Ashland University. He broke the record for the second time this season and because of that he has been named the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Men's Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week for the second time this season.

Reeves competed in two different events at the Ashland Alumni Invitational on Saturday and recorded top five finishes in each of those events. His day began with the Men's 60-meter dash, an event which he has been one of the top runners in the nation in this season. In the preliminary rounds of the event, Reeves posted a time of 6.87 and finished fifth in the first heat of the day. It was an average time for Reeves, but he wasn't happy about where he sat and looked to get even faster as he moved in to compete with the top eight runners.

He ended up crushing his preliminary time by almost a full second, finishing third with a time of 6.76 seconds. He broke the Wheeling University school record by 0.5 seconds and jumped from fifth overall to third overall in the final rankings. It is the third time this season that Reeves has broken his old school record, and since the beginning of the season, he has improved his PR by 1.1 seconds. He ranks 10th in NCAA Division II in the 60-meter dash and continues to push towards the NCAA Indoor National Championships on March 11th and 12th in Pittsburg, Kansas.

The other event Reeves competed in at Ashland was the 200-meter dash, where he and three other runners took the course. Reeves set a new PR in the event, running a 21.78, and finished just .3 seconds off the pace of the winner. Reeves did not compete in the 200-meter dash at Youngstown State at the end of January, but he came back in a big way and set his team up for success.

Jabez Reeves is the 18th Wheeling University student-athlete to receive weekly honors from the Mountain East Conference, and it is the second time he has won the award representing Wheeling Men's Indoor Track & Field this season. Last week, Women's Basketball's Lauren Calhoun took home the Co-Women's Basketball Player of the Week award for her efforts.

The Wheeling University Men's Indoor Track & Field team is back in action on Friday, February 11th, when they head to the Doug Raymond Invitational on the campus of Kent State University.
