Ethan Banks Big Debut Leads Cardinals in Salem Tri-Meet

Salem, W. Va. – In their first meet of the year, Nathan Yost was the only swimmer to take the pool for the Wheeling University Men's Swimming team. On Friday, the Cardinals headed to the Salem Tri-Meet with Salem University and Notre Dame College and their other upperclassmen swimmer stepped in to lead the way. Sophomore Ethan Banks made his 2022-23 debut and was the highest scoring Cardinal on the day.

Banks started his day with his best performance of the night, swimming in the 1000 Yard Freestyle. He finished second in the field with a time of 11:13.70 and finished just 30 seconds behind the race leader. Banks swam very well in long distance events during his sophomore season and continued that success in his debut. Banks's next best event came in his final race of the day when he swam in the 500 Yard Freestyle. He took home a fourth place finish, swimming a 5:26.60 and picked up his second top four finish of the day. He rounded out his day in the 100 yard Freestyle, where he finished fifth in the field with a time of 56.70. Banks had a strong start to his season and looks to continue that success as the season goes on.

Fellow sophomore Nathan Yost joined Banks in the pool and swam in three events as well on the day. He also started with his strongest event as he swam in the 200-Yard Freestyle. He placed fourth in the race with a time of 1:56.10, beating his time from the first meet by just over a minute. His second fourth place finish of the day came in the 200-Yard Individual Medley as he took on the event for the first time this season. He swam a 2:19.10, setting a strong benchmark for his to try and best during the 2022 portion of their schedule. His final race was the 100 Yard Fly where he finished fifth on the day. He swam 1:00.40 for the event, and just missed breaking the 1:00 minute mark.

The Wheeling University Men's Swimming team returns to the pool on Friday, October 28th, when they travel to Bethany for a dual meet at 5 PM.
