Youngstown, OH. – After having some top performers in day one of the YSU College Mid Major, the Wheeling University Track & Field team was back in action for day two of the event. The second day featured a majority of the track events running, while some of the field events got their chance to compete. The track proved to be the most successful for the Cardinals as their sprinters and relay teams took center stage.
Wheeling's biggest performance came in their last event of the day in the Men's 4x400-meter relay. The team of
Jabez Reeves,
TJ Tindall,
Daimar Ivey, and
Jacob Pielech was competing together for the third straight meet and put together their best performance so far. The quadruple finished first in the field, setting a new season-best with a time of 3:20.41, finishing a full second ahead of the next team. Each of the four runners also had success in their individual events, and it all came to a head when they joined together for the final event of the day.
For Reeves, Youngstown State has been a home away from home, and for the third time this season he beat the school record in the 60-meter dash. He broke his previous record by .04 seconds finishing at 6.81 seconds and taking home first place in the Men's 60-meter dash. Pielech and Tindall got their chance to shine in the 400-meter dash, finishing the event second and third respectively. Pielech finished the race in 49.54 and 49.69 respectively and were tw of only seven runners on the day to break the 49 second mark. Ivey competed in the field events, competing in the triple jump where he took home third place. He jumped a distance of 13.48 meters, setting his best mark of the season so far.
Wheeling's other top performances came in the final two events, the Men's Shot Put, Men's Pole Vault, and Men's 60-Meter Hurdles.
Ashton Grounds was the first athlete to compete on the day, and finished 21st overall throwing a distance of 13.14 meters.
Elijah Young competed in the Men's Pole Vault unseeded and tied for second overall with a height of 4.25 meters. A trio if Cardinals competed in the Men's 60-Meter Hurdles to round out the day, and all three finished in the top 10.
Julian Griffin finished second with a time of 8.18 seconds,
Damian Jackson came in at 8.36 seconds finishing fourth, and
Lorenzo Pelham finished ninth at 8.48 seconds.
The Wheeling University Men's Track & Field team is back in action on Saturday, February 5th when they compete at the Ashland Alumni Invite.
