Big Week Lands Burgoyne MEC Offensive Player of the Week

Bridgeport, W. Va. – The Mountain East Conference (MEC) released their weekly awards on Monday, and Women's Soccer's Kenadee Burgoyne (South Jordan, UT./Herriman) was named Co-Women's Soccer offensive Player of the Week. Burgoyne scored three goals during the week and got her offense started in each of the games as Wheeling scored two thrilling victories.

It started in Wednesday's come from behind win over Notre Dame College at Bishop Schmitt Field. On a cold, wet night, Notre Dame College got things going quickly with a goal in the second minute of the game. However, Burgoyne wouldn't let her team stay behind for too long taking a pass from Shiann Thomas as she scored a goal of her own in the fifth minute to tie things at 1-1. The Falcons struck again in the 12th minute to make it 2-1, but once again it was Burgoyne who would tie the game, this time all by herself, to tie the game at 2-2.

These two goals would keep the game tied until Talynn DeBartolo scored the game-winning goal late in the game. Burgoyne less the team with nine shots, eight on goal, and scored the assist on the game-winning goal to help Wheeling get their first-ever win against Notre Dame College. With one big win already over Notre Dame, Wheeling was looking to keep their momentum going against Alderson Broaddus.

In that game against the Battlers, Burgoyne notched the first goal of the game in the 17th minute to make it 1-0. She took a pass from Braedynn Porter, who would get the eventual game-winning goal, and found the net to get the offense started. Burgoyne was once again the offensive leader with four shots, two on goal, and added two more points to her season. She is one of the top scorers in the MEC this season and is showing her offensive prowess early in the season.

Burgoyne is the seventh Cardinal to be honored by the MEC this season, and the second award winner this week. Matt Greenwood was named MEC Football Special Teams Player of the Week earlier today.

The Wheeling University Women's Soccer team is back in action on Wednesday when they take on West Liberty with kick-off scheduled for 5 PM.
