Wheeling, W. Va. – The Wheeling University Men's Soccer team (3-2, 2-2) fell in Mountain East Conference (MEC) play on Wednesday when they fell to Notre Dame 7-0. The ominous skies were fitting as the Cardinals couldn't get the offense going.
Note Dame started the scoring in the 15
th minute when Alex Rumleanschi found the net. They added on five minutes later and the game went into halftime with Wheeling trailing 2-0. They were within striking distance and were hoping to come out and get back in the game, but it wasn't meant to be as Notre Dame was on the board once again in the 45
th minute and what was a manageable 2-0 deficit into a 3-0 game.
Note Dame would score four more times in the 50
th, 56
th, 72
nd, and 79
th minutes to bring the game to its final score of 7-0. The Cardinals were outshot on the day 19-5 as the offense didn't find many opportunities. On the defensive side of the ball, Wheeling made for saves compared to two saves for the Falcons. It was an overall down-night fit for the Cardinals and one they will try and put behind them.
Sophomore
Sam Clark came off the bench and led the offense taking two shots and putting both of them on goal. Senior
Tyler Serman got the start in net for the second straight game and made four saves while allowing seven goals in the loss.
The Wheeling University Men's Soccer team is back in action on Saturday when they face Gannon University at Bishop Schmitt Field.
