Cards tripped up by Walsh, 21-4

WHEELING, W.Va. (April 24) – The Wheeling University men's lacrosse team was defeated 21-4 by Walsh in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference contest Saturday afternoon.
 
The Cardinals (1-9, 0-5 G-MAC) were led by freshmen Jake Wodarek (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) and Jacob Knippel (Glendale, Ariz./Ironwood), who each had two points. Wodarek had a goal and an assist, while Knippel dished out a pair of assists.
 
Junior goalie Dallin Isaacson (Reno, Nev./Earl Wooster) made 14 saves in net.
 
The Cardinals played a solid defensive game in the first quarter. The Cavaliers scattered four goals to take the lead, while limiting the Wheeling offense to two shots on goal.
 
Walsh pulled out to an 11-0 lead at halftime with a seven-goal second quarter. Wheeling got on the board with consecutive goals by freshman Braiden Struss (Langley, British Columbia/Walnut Grove) and freshman Mike Andersson (Whitby, Ontario/Sinclair) five minutes into the second half.
 
Walsh's Kevin McMahon posted four goals and four assists to lead the Cavaliers to the win.
 
Wheeling will close out the 2021 season next Saturday, May 1 when it travels to Philippi, West Virginia to take on Alderson Broaddus around 2 p.m.
