PHILIPPI, W.Va. (May 1) – The Wheeling University men's lacrosse team closed out the 2021 campaign with a 14-7 loss on the road at Alderson Broaddus Saturday afternoon.
The Cardinals close out the season 1-10 overall, 0-6 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play. Wheeling, under second-year Head Coach
Nick Anagnostis, played for the first time since the 2019 season and featured a roster made up almost exclusively of first-year players.
Meanwhile, the Battlers finish the year at 2-8 overall, 2-4 in league play.
Freshman
Mike Andersson (Whitby, Ontario/Sinclair) led the team with season-high five goals in the loss. Freshman
Jake Wodarek (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) tacked on goal and two assists, while freshman
Braiden Struss (Langley, British Columbia/Walnut Grove) added a goal and an assist on the afternoon.
Junior goalie
Dallin Isaacson (Reno, Nev./Earl Wooster) made a season-high 21 saves on the afternoon.
Wheeling opened up a 4-2 lead with 9:13 left in the second quarter and took a 5-4 edge into halftime.
Andersson gave the Cardinals a 6-4 lead less than thirty seconds into the second half, but the Battlers answered back with 10 of the next 11 goals to race out to the 14-7 win.
Alderson Broaddus held a 57-to-26 advantage in shot attempts. Each team won 12 face offs.
