Wheeling defeated twice at Walsh

NORTH CANTON, Ohio (March 14) – The Wheeling University softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games at Walsh Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED in Game 1
  • The Cardinals got on the board in the first inning with the help of an error to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Walsh knotted the game up in the bottom of the first with the help of a leadoff walk, sacrifice bunt and a single.
  • The Cavs took their first lead of the day with a three-run home run in the third inning.
  • Wheeling cut into the deficit in the fourth with the help of an RBI-double from junior Hadley Bennett (Warren, Utah/Fremont) that made the score 4-2.
  • After both teams traded runs, Walsh plated five runs in the sixth to open up the game and secure the win.  
HOW IT HAPPENED in Game 2
  • Walsh scored runs in five of the six innings played to complete the sweep of the Cardinals.
  • Freshman third baseman Cassi Roman (Chino Hills, Calif./Ayala) was a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish with two RBIs and a run scored to lead the offense.
  • Redshirt-freshman outfielder Autumn Oehlstrom (Lisbon, Ohio/David Anderson) also finished the game with two hits.
  • Sophomore shortstop Taylor Hradek (Perry, Ohio/Perry) posted an RBI.
UP NEXT
  • The Cardinals will open Mountain East Conference (MEC) play on Saturday, March 20 in Philippi, West Virginia against MEC-newcomer Alderson Broaddus.
  • The first game is currently slated to start at 1 p.m.
