Wheeling notches first win at Felician, 10-8

NEWARK, N.J. (Feb. 27) – The Wheeling University men's lacrosse team gave Head Coach Nick Anagnostis his first win on the Cardinal sidelines with a 10-8 victory over Felician Saturday afternoon.

TEAM LEADERS
  • Freshma Jacob Knippel (Glendale, Ariz./Ironwood) led the way with four goals on eight shot attempts.
  • Classmate Brody Fawver (Louisville, Ky./DuPont Manual) and Mike Andersson (Whitby, Ontario/Sinclair) each chipped in two goals. Fawver also had six groundballs.
  • Junior goalie Dallin Isaacson (Reno, Nev./Earl Wooster) posted eight saves in net to earn the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cardinals opened up a 2-0 lead on goals by Knippel through the first 10 minutes, before a marker by Felician in the final three minutes sliced the lead in half at the end of the first quarter.
  • Wheeling built its lead to 5-1 with three-straight goals to start the second quarter.
  • Felician managed to get two goals back, including a man-up goal, to make the score 5-3 heading into halftime.
  • Wheeling looked to be in control when it established a 9-4 advantage with 1:13 left in the third quarter.
  • Felician made things interesting late when it got its deficit down to 10-8 with three goals in three minutes, but a timeout by the Cardinals helped settle things.
  • Wheeling limited its hosts to one shot on goal in the final four minutes to secure the victory.

  • The Cardinals will complete their northeastern trip tomorrow, Sunday, February 27 when they travel to Rockville Centre, New York to take on Molloy College at 2 p.m.
