USTFCCCA names Stewart Indoor All-American

NEW ORLEANS (May 26) - Wheeling University indoor track & field pole vaulter Danielle Stewart (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville) was declared an All-American on Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Per the USTFCCCA, normal policies dictate that All-America honors are awarded based on classifications of performance at the NCAA Championships. Due to the cancellation of the 2020 NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships, the Executive Committee declared All-America classifications for "each individual competitor listed on the startlist for an event" and for each of the "four student-athletes per anticipated relay who produced the performance that was declared and accepted into their event."

As a result, Stewart garners her first All-America honor after she qualified for the championships in the pole vault. Her PR vault of 3.93 meters (12 feet, 10.75 inches) at the Youngstown State Invitational this season qualified her for the event and also earned her USTFCCCA All-Region honors. Stewart is a two-time Mountain East Conference Outdoor Champion in Pole Vault, took second place in 2019 and won the inaugural MEC Indoor Championship in the Pole Vault this season. A nursing major, Stewart was also a member of the 2020 MEC Academic All-Conference Team.

There is no designation between First Team and Second Team All-America for the 2020 indoor season.

Stewart also recently earned the MEC's Spring Senior Career Acievement Award last week
