WHEELING, W. Va. (Sept. 29) – The Wheeling University women's soccer team battled, but came up short in a 2-1 loss to Urbana Sunday evening in a Mountain East Conference (MEC) match.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• After a scoreless first half, the Cardinals struck first when a cross by senior Micah Miller (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing) was deflected into the net by an Urbana player to put Wheeling on the board first in the 61st-minute.
• Urbana answered five minutes later to tie the game up at 1-1 and scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 76th-minute
• Wheeling made a final push with a trio of corner-kick attempts in the final 15 minutes of the match, but Urbana managed to hold on for the 2-1 win.

MATCH NOTES

• Junior forward Marley Magruder (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) finished with nine shot attempts, including five on-goal.
• Senior goalkeeper Megan Herter (Springfield, Ill./Sacred Heart-Griffin) made a trio of saves in the game.
• The Cardinals out-shot the Blue Knights 23-to-12 for the contest and finished with 11 corner-kick attempts, compared to the six attempted by Urbana.
