WEST LIBERTY, W. Va. (Oct. 2) - The Wheeling University women's soccer team was handed a 4-2 loss at West Liberty Wednesday night in a Mountain East Conference (MEC) contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • West Liberty began the scoring in the 12th-minute on a corner-kick that was finished by a header.
  • The Cardinals tied the match minutes later when senior midfielder Micah Miller (Wyomissing, Pa./ Wyomissing Area) notched her first goal of the 2019 campaign on a penalty-kick opportunity to send the match into halftime tied at 1-1.
  • West Liberty dominated the second half with three unanswered goals across a 25 minute span to pull away.
  • Sophomore Braedynn Porter (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) scored her first goal of the season off of a Miller assist in the closing minutes of the contest to bring the final tally to 4-2.

MATCH NOTES

  • Redshirt-freshman goalkeeper Mikayla Yarwood (Surrey, British Columbia/Clayton Heights) tallied six saves in the loss.
  • The Hilltoppers out-shot the Cardinals 18-to-14 for the match.
