WHEELING, W.Va. (Sept. 29) - The Wheeling University men's soccer team was dealt a 5-1 loss by Urbana Sunday afternoon in a Mountain East Conference (MEC) match.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After 32 minutes of scoreless play, the Blue Knights scored three times in a five-minute span to race out to a 3-0 lead.
  • Urbana added another goal before the end of the first half to take a 4-0 advantage into the break.
  • The Blue Knights tacked on a fifth goal in the 56th-minute, before the Cardinals finally got onto the board.
  • Sophomore Javier Mangado (La Rioja, Spain/IES Prazedes Mateo Sagasta) connected through the middle of the field on a pass to classmate Andres Caceres (Bogota, Columbia), who finished to make the score 5-1 in the 77th-minute.
MATCH NOTES
  • Junior goalkeeper Josh Zimmerman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Franklin Regional) recorded eight saves in the loss.
  • The Blue Knights finished with a 17-to-10 advantage in shots, and a 7-to-4 edge in corner-kick attempts.

  • Wheeling will look to turn things around on Wednesday, October 2 when they make the short trip up the hill to West Liberty for a match at 5 p.m.
