NEW ORLEANS (May 17) - Wheeling Jesuit University track & field coach
Ricky Moore was named the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Women's Coach of the Year by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Friday afternoon.
Moore, who was also recently named the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Coach of the Year, led the women's team to a No. 2 ranking in the Atlantic Regional Track & Field Ratings Index (TFRI), marking the highest finish by the team in program history. Only Slippery Rock (594.15) had a higher TFRI than the Cardinals in the region.
The Cardinals won the MEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships with eight event victories and recorded six school records during the season. Moore's women's teams have won the past two MEC Championships and have never finished lower than second in any conference meet since the inaugural event in 2014.
Moore, now in his 12th season as head coach of both the men's and women's teams, will head to Kingsville, Texas with sophomore
Anna Massa on the women's side and
Darius Berry of the men's team, who qualified for the NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships. Berry and Massa are two of just four student-athletes from the MEC that qualified for this year's national championships.
