WHEELING, W.Va. (April 5) – The Wheeling Jesuit University women's lacrosse team was dealt a 19-11 loss to UVa-Wise in a battle between the top-two teams in the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Friday evening at Bishop Schmitt Field.
The loss drops the Cardinals to 7-4 overall, 3-1 in the MEC, and snaps a five-game winning streak. Meanwhile, the Cavaliers improve to 4-0 in league play and 6-5 overall this season.
Freshman
Mackenzie Kaderabek (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's) led the team with five points with including four goals and one assist in the loss. Both sophomore
Bethany Wallingford (Chillicothe, Ohio/Chillicothe) and senior
Taylor Booth (Port Moody, British Columbia/Heritage Woods) each added two goals.
UVa-Wise opened up a 3-0 lead eight minutes into the game, before a Kaderabek goal ended the run with 21:40 to play in the first half.
The Cavaliers eventually built their lead to 8-3, but a pair of quick goals by Kaderabek and senior
Ally Coggins (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) got the Cardinals back within three at 8-5 with 10:25 remaining in the first half, before entering halftime down 10-6.
The Cardinals managed to draw back within three at 10-7 with a goal to open the second half. UVa-Wise went on to score three-straight goals and out-score WJU 9-5 in the second 30 minutes to come away with the 19-11 win.

Emma Stair (Westminster, Md./Mount de Sales Academy) made a career-high 12 saves on 41 shot attempts in the loss.

Paige Orbell (Severn, Md./Old Mill) posted a game-high eight draw controls to go along with one goal and two assists.
The Cardinals will look to get back on track on Sunday, April 7 when they host Charleston in another MEC match at 1 p.m.
