WHEELING, W.Va. (April 10) – The Wheeling Jesuit University men's lacrosse team fell 21-8 to Seton Hill in a Great Midwest Atlantic Conference clash on Wednesday night.
The Cardinals drop to 3-9 overall, 1-3 in the Great Midwest with the loss. The Griffins climb to 8-3 on the season and 3-0 in league play with the win.
Freshman attackman Colton Abate (Pittsburgh, Pa./Peters Township), freshman midfielder Patrick Coggins (Mount Airy, Md./Linganore), and senior midfielder Michael Schonhiutt (Westerville, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) each scored two goals.
The first quarter was close, ending 3-2 in favor of Seton Hill. Schonhiutt and Coggins each scored once for Wheeling Jesuit.
The Griffins opened the second quarter with five-unanswered goals to go up 8-2. The Cardinals responded with two consecutive goals to cut their deficit to 8-4. Seton Hill scored three more times to increase its lead to 11-4 going into halftime.
The Griffins outscored Wheeling Jesuit 10-4 in the second half to firmly secure the victory.
Seton Hill out-shot the Cardinals 51-28 and won 24 faceoffs compared to nine won by Wheeling Jesuit. The Cardinals were able to force more turnovers than the Griffins, 14-12.
Wheeling Jesuit will play another Great Midwest opponent, Mercyhurst, at Bishop Schmitt Field on Saturday, April 20 at 1 p.m.
