Cardinals fall at Urbana, 2-0

URBANA, Ohio (Nov. 6) - The Wheeling University men's soccer team came up short in a 2-0 loss at Urbana Wednesday night in a Mountain East Conference (MEC) matchup.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Sophomore goalkeeper James Serman (Auburndale, Fla. / Auburndale) came up huge with a pair of saves minutes before the half ended in a tightly contested period to send the game into halftime scoreless.
  • The game would continue to be a defensive battle until the Blue Knights were able to strike the game's first goal off a strike from about 30 yards away in the top left corner of the net in the 67th-minute.
  • Urbana tallied another goal late to add insurance and allow the Blue Knights to claim the league win.
MATCH NOTES
  • Serman finished with eight saves in the match. 
  • Wheeling was out shot 20-to-10 in the loss. Urbana also held a 10-to-4 advantage on shots on goal.
UP NEXT
  • The Cardinals return to Bishop Schmitt Field on Sunday, November 10 to take on West Liberty in the final game of the season at 1 p.m.
  • Wheeling will honor its six seniors prior to the season-finale.
  • The matchup will be the second meeting between father, Jim Regan, and son, Sean Regan. West Liberty took the first contest 2-1 last month.
