Men's soccer sends off seniors with win over West Liberty, 2-1

WHEELING, W.Va. (Nov. 10) – The Wheeling University men's soccer team were able to send its six seniors off in style with a 2-1 win over West Liberty Sunday afternoon in a Mountain East Conference (MEC) matchup.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cardinals got on the board first, in the 26th-minute when a shot by senior forward, Lucas Fievet (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Keystone Oaks) rebounded out to  senior Adam Pannebaker (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Moon Area), who knocked the rebound into the back of the net to give Wheeling an early 1-0 lead.
  • Wheeling added on to their lead with what proved to be the game winning goal. Junior Andres Caceres (Bogota, Columbia) found the back ona free-kick from about 35 yards out to give the Cardinals a 2-0 lead in the 62nd-minute.
  • The Hilltoppers didn't give up as a goal in the 82 minute gave West Liberty hope late in the game.
  • As the clock struck zero in the second half, the Cardinals where able to send their seniors out on top as a 2-1 over rival, West Liberty, gave the Cardinals their third win of the year.
MATCH NOTES
  • Junior goalie, Josh Zimmerman (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Franklin Regional), only needed two saves in the match as the Cardinals defense only allowed three shots on goal.
  • Wheeling head coach Jim Regan was able to avenge a 2-1 loss earlier in the season to his son and West Liberty Head Coach Sean Regan.
