No. 17 Cardinals cruise past Frostburg State, 3-0

WHEELING, W.Va. (Nov. 2) – The No. 17 Wheeling University volleyball team dominated Frostburg State on its way to a 3-0 win Saturday afternoon on Senior Day and Alumni Day.

TEAM LEADERS
  • Senior Haley Kramer (Norwalk, Ohio/Monroeville) was impressive with 15 kills on 20 attacks with only one error to hit .700 for the match.
  • Kramer also added a match-best five blocks in the win.
  • Junior Breanna Kramer (Norwalk, Ohio/Monroeville) added 11 kills on 24 attacks (one error) to hit .417 for the day. She also chipped in 11 digs on defense.
  • Junior Cassie Meyer (Jackson Center, Ohio/Jackson Center) continued her strong play recently with 11 kills on 20 attacks with two errors (.450 hitting percentage).
  • Senior Stephanie Sylvester (Oregon, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy) setup the hitters all day and finished with 47 assists. As a team, the Cardinals hit .484 with 51 kills.
  • Junior Audrey Francis (Sidney, Ohio/Fairlawn) was the leader on defense with 21 digs in the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Frostburg State hung around early and only trailed 8-5 to open the match.
  • Wheeling followed with a 10-2 run to build up an 18-6 lead, before claiming the set at 25-12.
  • The Bobcats held their own early once again in the second set and trailed 6-4 through 10 points.
  • The Cardinals had another big run, including two runs of five-straight points, to take a 20-7 lead. Wheeling eventually took the set 25-9 for a 2-0 lead in the match.
  • The third set played on similar to the first two stanzas. Wheeling posted multiple four-point runs to close out the match with a 25-9 win for the sweep.

  • Wheeling plays inside the McDonough Center again on Tuesday, November 5 when it hosts Charleston for a MEC match at 6 p.m.
