BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (Nov. 18) - After helping the team win its season opener, Wheeling University sophomore forward Emmanuel Ansong (Bordentown, N.J./Caterbury School) was named the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week announced the league office Monday afternoon.

Ansong posted a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds (seven offensive) in the team's 73-61 season-opening win over Seton Hill last week.

The New Jersey native also added three steals, a blocked shot and a couple of thunderous dunks to help Will Ryan earn a win in his head coaching debut. Ansong shot 9-of-16 from the field (56 percent) and was effective driving to the rim against the Griffins all night.

Ansong and the rest of the Cardinals return to the Alma Grace McDonough Center floor on Wednesday, November 20 for a non-conference contest against Malone (2-2) at 6 p.m.
