No. 19 Volleyball rolls past West Virginia State, 3-0

WHEELING, W.Va. (Oct. 26) – The No. 19 Wheeling University volleyball team rolled to a dominant 3-0 win over West Virginia State Saturday afternoon inside the McDonough Center.

TEAM LEADERS
  • Junior Cassie Meyer (Jackson Center, Ohio/Jackson Center) finished with 14 kills on 25 attacks with one error (.520 hitting percentage) to lead the Cardinals. She also chipped in 10 digs for a double-double.
  • Junior Breanna Kramer (Norwalk, Ohio/Monroeville) turned in a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs in the win.
  • Senior Haley Kramer (Norwalk, Ohio/Monroeville) posted 10 kills on just 14 attacks with zero errors (.714).
  • Senior Stephanie Sylvester (Oregon, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy) helped setup the team's .370 hitting percentage with 39 assists.
  • Junior Audrey Francis (Sidney, Ohio/Fairlawn) paced the defense with 18 digs, while sophomore Allonda Watkins (Beachwood, Ohio/Beachwood) added seven blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cardinals dominated the first set on their way to a 25-8 win. The team had four runs of four-straight points or more.
  • Wheeling kept the pressure on in the second set when it opened up a 10-4 lead early on.
  • West Virginia State managed to close the gap to one, 14-13, but the Cardinals controlled the back half of the set to claim a 25-18 win.
  • The match was never in doubt after the Cardinals established leads of 6-1, 12-2 and 20-7, before closing out the match with a 25-10 win.
