  • Records: Wheeling (2-10, 1-9 MEC) | Frostburg State (6-6-1, 5-5-1 MEC)
  • Location: Bishop Schmitt Field – Wheeling, West Virginia
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • There were few scoring opportunities for either side in the first half.
  • Frostburg State limited the Cardinals to one shot attempt and took three of its own, but junior goalkeeper Josh Zimmerman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Franklin Regional) was up to the task each time.
  • Zimmerman made a sliding stop in the sixth minute of the match that kept the game scoreless through the first 45 minutes.
  • Frostburg State broke through in the 64th-minute when the Bobcats took possession from about 30 yards out.
  • A cross from left to right found an open player near the goal, who beat a diving Zimmerman to the right side of the net to make the score 1-0.
  • Wheeling did not go away quietly. Sophomore Miguel Martin (El Tigre, Venezuela/Marcet Football Academy) had a shot go just above the cross bar in the 84th-minute.
  • Two minutes later, Martin got behind the Frostburg State back line and had another chance for goal.
  • The Bobcat goalkeeper came out of his net to stop a shot attempt and corralled a rebound shot attempt by senior Lucas Fievet (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) that kept the Cardinals off of the scoreboard.
  • Frostburg State managed to kill off the remaining four minutes on the clock to send Wheeling to the narrow defeat.
MATCH NOTES
  • Zimmerman made three saves in the loss, including one late in the match that kept the Cardinal deficit at one goal.
  • Both team's had five shots on goal in the match, but Frostburg State attempted 11 corner kicks. Wheeling only attempted three.
  • Frostburg State was tagged with 14 fouls, compared to the seven committed by Wheeling.
