BUCKHANNON, W.Va. (Oct. 18) – The No. 21 Wheeling University volleyball team notched a 3-0 sweep over West Virginia Wesleyan Friday night in a Mountain East Conference (MEC) match.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Cardinals were sharp in the first set and established leads of 13-7, 17-11 and 23-11 to cruise to a 25-12 first set win.
• The Bobcats took their only lead of the night at 15-14 in the second set and hung around, but Wheeling strung together five-straight points to take a 19-15 lead, before taking the second set at 25-19.
• The Cardinals sent the home crowd home early with a strong third set. Wheeling led by scores of 13-7, 19-9, and 23-12 before closing out the match on a kill by sophomore Allonda Watkins (Beachwood, Ohio/Beachwood).

TEAM LEADERS

• Watkins led the team 11 kills on the night. She also added two blocks in the win.
• Senior Haley Kramer (Norwalk, Ohio/Monroeville) posted 10 kills and a match-high five blocks.
• Senior Stephanie Sylvester (Oregon, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy) tossed around 33 assists to guide the offense to victory.

• The Cardinals will travel further east on Route 48 to Elkins, West Virginia to take on Davis & Elkins in a MEC match tomorrow, Saturday, October 19 at 3 p.m.
