Audrey Francis became the first player in program-history with 2,000 career digs, as the No. 20 Wheeling University volleyball team picked up a 3-0 sweep over Urbana Friday night in a Mountain East Conference (MEC) match.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cardinals opened up the match with five-straight points, before Urbana closed the gap and tied the set at 11-11.
- Wheeling eventually re-built its lead to three, 20-17, to force a Blue Knight timeout. The Cardinals went on to close the set out at 25-21.
- Urbana looked poised to take the second set when it held a 15-9 lead, but the Cardinals rallied back.
- Wheeling had a four-point and a five-point spurt that allowed it to take an 18-17 lead.
- Urbana reclaimed the lead at 20-19, but another rally propelled the Cardinals ahead. Wheeling notched five-straight points to take a 24-20 lead and closed out the set at 25-22.
- The Cardinals controlled the third set to complete the sweep.Â
- Wheeling limited Urbana to a match-low negative-.125 hitting percentage in the third set with seven kills and 12 errors on 40 attacks.
- The Blue Knights night ended with three-straight attack errors to seal the victory for the Cardinals.
TEAM LEADERS
- Junior Audrey Francis (Sidney, Ohio/Fairlawn) finished with 20 digs and moved past the 2,000-dig plateau during the second set. She entered the night needing just nine digs for the mark.
- Francis is the second Cardinal in program history to post 2,000 digs in a career and the third player in the six-year history of the MEC.
- Senior Haley Kramer (Norwalk, Ohio/Monroeville) led the team with 12 kills, while adding five blocks.
- Junior Breanna Kramer (Norwalk, Ohio/Monroeville) added 10 kills and a match-best six blocks.
UP NEXT
- Wheeling will have a week off before traveling to Buckhannon, West Virginia to take on West Virginia Wesleyan on Friday, October 18 for a match at 7 p.m.
