SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio (Jan. 23) - The Wheeling Jesuit men's basketball team was knocked off 95-76 at Notre Dame (Ohio) Wednesday night in a Mountain East Conference (MEC) matchup.
The Cardinals fall to 2-15 overall and 1-10 in league play, while the Falcons improve to 12-5, 8-3 in the MEC.
Four players scored in double-figures for WJU, inlcuding freshman guard
Franck Kamgain (Kansas City, Mo./DME Sports Academy), who led the team with 13 points, six assists, and three steals. Freshman forward
DeAndre Robinson (Monroeville, Ala./Monroe County) also racked up 13 points, going 5-7 from the field. Freshman
Tariq Woody (Canton, Mich./Novi) and junior guard
Zach Collins (South Riding, Va./Freedom) each added 10 points for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals started with a bang, taking the lead right away with a three by freshman guard
Steve Cannady (Bowie, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti). After a back and forth battle, WJU went on a 7-0 run to take the lead 24-19 at the nine minute mark. Notre Dame retaliated with a 10-2 run in the final two minutes of the first half and went into halftime up 45-33.
Both teams shot seven three pointers in the second half, but the Falcons continued to extend their lead and held off any attempt of a comeback by the Cardinals to pick up the league win.
Wheeling Jesuit will travel up the hill to rival-West Liberty for its next MEC contest on Saturday, January 26 at 7:30 p.m.
