WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. (Jan. 26) - The Wheeling Jesuit University men's basketball team was dealt a 118-74 loss at rival-West Liberty Saturday night in a Mountain East Conference (MEC) contest.
The Cardinals fall to 2-16 overall, 1-11 in the MEC this season. Meanwhile, the Hilltoppers, ranked No. 8 in the most recent National Basketball Coaches Association (NABC) Top-25 poll, improve to 11-1 in league play, 15-2 overall.
Three players scored in double-figures for the Cardinals, led by freshman guard
Steve Cannady (Bowie, Md./St. Vincent Palotti) who posted a team-high 13 points. Sophomore guard
Brendan Hoban (Watertown, Mass./Millbrook School) chipped in 12 points, while freshman forward
DeAndre Robinson (Monroeville, Ala./Monroe County) added 11 points in the loss.
West Liberty shot 39 of 65 from the field (60 percent), including 16 of 27 (59 percent) from beyond-the-arc. The Cardinals meanwhile shot 26 of 63 (41 percent) from the floor.
West Liberty's Dalton Bolon led the Hilltoppers with 23 points.
The Cardinals are back in action on Wednesday, January 30 when they travel to Fairmont, West Virginia to take on Fairmont State at 7:30 p.m.
