Wheeling Jesuit defeated by league-leading Charleston

WHEELING, W.Va. (Jan. 10) - The Wheeling Jesuit University women's basketball team was knocked off 68-26 Thursday night at the McDonough Center.

The Cardinals fall to 3-10 overall, 1-6 in the Mountain East Conference (MEC) standings. Meanwhile, the Golden Eagles improve to 7-0 in league play, 12-1 overall this season.

Wheeling Jesuit struggled from the floor the entire game. Charleston limited the Cardinals to four points and opened up a 19-4 advantage after one quarter. The Golden Eagles continued to build their lead in the second quarter and took a 35-12 lead into halftime. Charleston defensively pressed the Cardinals and held WJU to 3-of-26 (12 percent) shooting from the field in the opening 20 minutes. Charleston continued to press in the second half and never allowed WJU to cut into its lead, before closing out the win.

Senior Chenelle Moore (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville South) was limited to five points and six rebounds in the game.

The Cardinals are back on the court Saturday, January 12 when they travel to Institute, West Virginia to take on West Virginia State in an MEC contest at 2 p.m.
