WHEELING, W.Va. (Sept. 15) - The No. 19 Wheeling Jesuit University volleyball team collected a 3-0 sweep over Fairmont State (25-18, 25-14, 25-14) in a Mountain East Conference (MEC) match Saturday afternoon inside the McDonough Center.
The Cardinals improve to 11-3 overall, 2-0 in the MEC. Meanwhile the Falcons fall to 0-2 in conference play, 4-8 this season.
Sophomore
Cassie Meyer (Jackson Center, Ohio/Jackson Center) finished with a match-best 16 kills to go along with eight digs and a pair of service aces. Junior
Haley Kramer (Norwalk, Ohio/Monroeville) added 11 kills, while junior setter
Stephanie Sylvester (Oregon, Ohio/St. Ursula Academy) tossed around 41 assists in the win.
Fairmont State kept the first set close, trailing at one point 15-12, but Wheeling Jesuit pulled away with 10 of the next 16 points to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Wheeling Jesuit controlled the second set. The Cardinals opened up a 12-4 lead that forced Fairmont State to burn a timeout. The Falcons managed to draw within six, 15-9, but WJU went on a 10-to-5 run to wrap up a 25-14 second-set win.

Makenna Babb (Arlington, Ohio/McComb) put the finishing touches on the win with kills on two of the final three points.

Wheeling Jesuit limited Fairmont State to a .095 hitting percentage, including a negative-.038 mark with only five kills in the second set win.
Freshman
Jenna Karl (Tiro, Ohio/Buckeye Central) was the team's top defender with 12 digs to lead the Cardinals.

Wheeling Jesuit hits the road next week for a trio of matches, beginning with a non-conference contest at Indiana (Pa.) on Tuesday, September 18 at 6 p.m.
