Cardinals defeated by Mercyhurst

WHEELING, W.Va. (Sept. 11) – The Wheeling Jesuit women's soccer team was knocked off 4-0 by Mercyhurst University in a non-conference match Wednesday evening at Bishop Schmitt Field. 
 
With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 0-4 on the season, while the Lakers improve to 2-2 overall.
 
Sophomore Marley Magruder (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) and freshman Olivia Liston (Reedsville, W. Va./Preston) took shots on goal for the Cardinals, but were unable to find the back of the net.

Mercyhurst's Jinan Abdalah capitalized on two opportunities in the first half to put the Lakers up 2-0, while Maya Fanazini and Maya Baur each added goals in the second half to help secure the win for the Lakers. 
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Asya Carney (Moundsville, W.Va./John Marshall) recorded eight saves in the game for the Cardinals.
 
WJU travels to Pitt-Johnstown on Monday, September 17 for a non-conference contest at 12 p.m.
