No. 10 Storm Passed by Cardinals

WHEELING, W.Va. – After scoring the match's first eight goals to start the game, No. 10 Lake Erie College passed past Wheeling Jesuit men's lacrosse, 21-9, on Saturday afternoon.

After netting the opening two goals of the second half, the Cardinals (5-5) pulled within a 9-4 margin, but their momentum turned out to be short lived. The Storm (8-1) rattled off the next four goals and 10 of the next 11 to stymie any home change of coming back to make it a 19-5 match. Jamison Smith netted two scores in a row and WJU had four of the final six goals over the final 8:27 of the match.

Smith paced the Cardinals with four of the team's nine goals. Travis Getz assisted on two with one goal. Dereck Downs added a goal and one assist.

Phil Burns, Michael Schonhiutt and Michael Jablonski fired in one goal each. Michael Stillings and David Corral had one assist apiece.

WJU goalie Jake Lilly saved 17 Storm shots on goal. Scotty Gwyn won 10 faceoffs, forced three turnovers and picked up nine ground balls.

Jamison Smith scored WJU's first goal of the afternoon at 6:53 left in the second quarter. Mike Stillings found Smith in front of the net, after forcing a turnover on Lake Erie College, charting the Cardinals first score.

For Lake Erie College, Edmond Renaud led all scorers with six goals and an assist.

WJU is on the road to play the New York Institute of Technology for a 4 p.m. match on Wednesday, April 11.
