No. 8 Bears Take Down Cardinals

Old Westbury, N.Y. — The Wheeling Jesuit men's lacrosse team was taken down by No. 8 opponent New York Institute of Technology with a final score of 18-5.

WJU (5-6) scored two times in the first quarter and netted another to start the second period, 3-3. NYIT (7-4) ripped-off 15 straight points gaining a massive lead. The Cardinals found the back of the net twice in the final 15 minutes, but the Bears´ run was too much to overcome, 5-18.

In the visiting offense, Travis Getz netted the first goal of the game, when Dereck Downs threw a quick pass to his teammate in front of the goal. Downs fired home one score, assisted on three more and picked up four ground balls. Jamison Smith, Michael Jablonski and Phillip Burns produced a goal each, with Smith adding another assist.

Goalie Jake Lilly saved 14 shots on goal.

LeRoy Halftown received four goals to lead the Bears home offense.

WJU will stay on the road for a match against Molloy College on Saturday, April 14, starting at noon.
