Hickman Sends Senior Teammates Out on High Note

WHEELING, W.Va. –  Kori Hickman netted four goals and assisted in five more to helped send her fellow Wheeling Jesuit senior women's lacrosse teammates out on a high note over West Virginia Wesleyan, 20-12, Sunday afternoon in a Mountain East Conference match.

Hickman started the Cardinals (5-9, 3-1 MEC) early five-goal run, which was followed by another seven-goal surge to end the first half for a 13-3 lead. WJU led by no less than seven goals in the rest of the game over West Virginia Wesleyan (6-6-1/1-2 MEC) to take the victory 20-12.

In the match, Hickman crowned her exceptional performance with a new school record of 137 total career assists. Hickman was joined by her other four senior teammates – Bri Wahle, Lyndsay Carpenter, Markie Wright and Taylor Quigg – who played in their final match on the Bishop Schmitt Field turf. The senior group won a pair of MEC Regular Season and last spring's MEC Tournament titles.

The Cardinals offense was lead by Hayley Holmquist with seven scores. Teammates Hickman and Paige Orbell both contributed with four goals each with Orbell forcing seven turnovers on the Bobcats. Gionna Alessandro found the back of the net two times and Kate Calder, Ally Coggins and Kelly Martyn added one more goal each.

Goalie Elizabeth Hanks and teammate Chrissy Conklin saved three shots on goal each.

WJU completes the regular season next Sunday, April 29, when it travels to South Euclid, Ohio to battle Notre Dame College.
