Cardinals Fall Short Against Cavaliers

Wise, Va.  – The Wheeling Jesuit women's lacrosse team´s strong first half was not enough to hold off The University of Virginia's College at Wise in the Mountain East Conference opening match on Friday evening, 14-10.

Kate Calder scored the first goal of the match after Brianna Whale forced a UVa.-Wise (6-4/1-0 MEC) turnover. The Cardinals (2-9/0-1 MEC) built a two-goal lead going into the halftime break, before the Cavaliers went on an eight-goal run to close the match, 14-10.

Paige Orbell lead the visiting offense with four goals and two ground balls. Calder added two goals and Haley Holmquist, Markie Wright and Taylor Booth netted one goal each.

Elizabeth Hanks saved 10 shots on goal and picked up eight ground balls.
