Cardinals Hold Tough, but Fall at No. 25 Bald Eagles

LOCK HAVEN – With snow falling for part of the game, the Cardinals gave another nationally-ranked foe a tough match. Wheeling Jesuit ran off four goals in a row, but No. 25 Lock Haven answered it and went on for the 20-9 women's lacrosse win.

Trailing 7-2, Markie Wright and Kori Hickman pulled the Cardinals (1-5) to within 7-4 at half on the final two goals of the opening 30 minutes. Kate Calder and Gionna Alesandro made it four-straight WJU scores to make it a 7-6 contest. The Bald Eagles (3-0) rebounded for eight tallies in a row and a 13-3 margin in the final 20 minutes.

Hayley Holmquist accounted for three of WJU's goals to lead the attack. Hickman added one goal and two assists, while Alesandro had a pair of scores. Calder, Wright, and Paige Orbell added one goal each. Taylor Booth assisted on one score.

Goalie Elizabeth Hanks stopped six Lock Haven shots.

Karli Gilbert led all scorers with five goals for the home team.

WJU stays on the road in a 7 p.m. Thursday, March 8, match at Lake Erie College.
