Cardinals Fly Past Senators

WHEELING, W.Va. – The Wheeling Jesuit men's lacrosse team swarmed Davis & Elkins and coasted to a 21-4 victory Saturday afternoon at Bishop Schmitt Field.

Jordan Getz started the Cardinals (5-4) surge with a behind-the-back shot off of a Max Butler pass. WJU continued its seven goal early run with back-to-back goals. Jamison Smith added a man down score for an 8-1 lead and WJU never looked back against the Senators (0-7).

The Cardinals offense was lead by Dereck Downs with a big individual performance of five goals and one assist, including his 30th goal of the season. Jordan Getz followed with four goals and added another assist. Smith totaled three goals, forced two turnovers and picked up two ground balls. Matt Lee and Michael Jablonski both netted two more goals each, with Lee also adding a pair of assists. 

Goalie Jake Lilly saved six Senator shots on goal, while Bear Scott saved four attempts. WJU won 22 out of 29 face-offs, with Scotty Gwyn picking up 10 ground balls and forcing four turnovers. Brandon Foose also caught eight ground balls.

WJU returns to Bishop Schmitt Field next Saturday, April 7, when it hosts Lake Erie College at 1 p.m.
