Cardinals Start Slow, Fall to Lakers

WHEELING, W.Va. – A strong early run helped propel the visiting Mercyhurst past Wheeling Jesuit Wednesday evening, 18-8.

The Cardinals (2-8) trailed at the break with 3-11,  but WJU kept fighting Mercyhurst (5-2) in the second half to close the match, 8-18.

Hayley Holmquist scored WJU's first goal of the evening. Ally Coggins found Holmquist in front of the net and Holmquist would do the rest, charting the Cardinals first score.
 
Hayley Holmquist lead the home offense with four goals and two ground balls. Orbell, Coggins, Wallingford and Alessandro all finished with one goal and Coggins added two assists.
 
Sarah Artzer forced four turnovers and picked up four ground balls. Markie Wright finished with three ground balls. Paige Orbell won four draw controls and forced one turnover.
 
WJU stays on the road for a 7 p.m. match against the University of Virginia's College at Wise on Friday, April 13.
