Pioneers Quiet Cardinals Bats, Take Twinbill

WHEELING, W.Va. – In the chilly Sunday afternoon, the Cardinals bats were held silent. Glenville State limited Wheeling Jesuit to three hits in 14 innings on the way to a 10-0 and 9-0 shutouts on the baseball diamond.

The Cardinals (3-13/2-6 Mountain East Conference North) put runners on base in each of the first three innings on singles and two in the second and third, but could not amount any more offense. The Pioneers (6-13/3-3 MEC South) took advantage of a pair of home errors for five unearned runs of a seven-score fourth-frame in the first game.

Adam Riggleman did not allow a second-game WJU hit, while he fanned nine for a no-hitter to only a fourth-inning Brad Trescott walk. Glenville State scored at least a run in five of the seven innings.

Hayden Hizer, Logan Schickler and Bobby Truelove accounted for the Cardinals hits, all singles.

WJU has off until it travels to face Charleston on Friday afternoon in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
