Cardinals Rush Out to Claim Victory Over Cavaliers

Wheeling, W.Va. – The Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals dominated the first two quarters with nine goals in a row and rushed past Walsh, 9-0. After the halftime break, the Walsh Cavaliers put up a strong fight, but the Cardinals stood their ground to earn the victory, 17-11.

Three minutes into the match, Michael Jablonski scored the Cardinals (3-5) first goal to start the nine goal dash from eight different scorers. Dereck Downs taking a double with Matt Lee blocking the goalie´s line of sight for his second score in the game. Coming back from the halftime break, WJU was surprised by a strong Cavaliers´(1-7) third quarter to get them back on the scoring board, 12-9. After the 3rd quarter shock, the Cardinals took control back in their hands with another five goal spurt to claim the win over Walsh University, 17-11.

In the home offense with a shot difference of 44-29, Dereck Downs netted four goals and assisted on another. His teammate Matt Lee picked up a ´hat trick´ and one assist. Jordan Getz and Travis Getz both added two more points. 

Goalie Jake Lilly saved nine Cavaliers shots on goal and picked up four ground balls. McLean Fitzmartin forced three turnovers and also caught four ground balls.

The Cardinals return to action on Tuesday, March 27, when they travel to Ohio Valley University. Face off is set for 4 p.m.
