Chapman Fires 3-Hitter, Cards Split Against Falcons

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – With a sunny Sunday, Mallory Chapman was on. Chapman fired an opening three-hit shutout, 3-0, as Wheeling Jesuit split a softball twinbill against Notre Dame with a 2-1 close loss in the late contest.
 
Over 10.2 innings, Chapman fanned 13 Notre Dame College (5-11/1-1 Mountain East Conference North) batters and allowed only three hits and three walks in those frames.

WJU (5-12/1-1 MEC North) scored single runs in the first three innings for its three scores in game one. With one out in the top of the fourth of game two, NDC placed two runners on base after a double and a walk, before Amy Hoover tripled both home for the 2-1 score. The Cardinals had a runner thrown at home in the fourth to end one rally and another runner caught stealing in the fifth.
 
Cassie Holstein led WJU at the place having four hits, two stolen bases and a run. Courtney Rogers doubled, singled and drove in a run.
 
Molly Welsh doubled and lined a pair of singles, while Heather Pinney singled three times. Jackie Cramer added two hits.
 
WJU will make up Saturday's postponed games on Monday afternoon, March 19, at Urbana starting at 3 p.m.
