No. 14 Lions Nip Cardinals in Final Five Minutes

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Cardinals could not come much closer for the upset. No. 14 Lindenwood rallied late and nipped Wheeling Jesuit men's lacrosse, 10-8, with the match's final three goals.

WJU (1-2) scored four times in the second quarter from four different scorers and doubled Lindenwood (3-0) for a 6-3 intermission margin. The Lions owned the third frame with the only three goals and added the final three in the last five minutes after back-to-back Matt Lee and Dereck Downs put the Cardinals back ahead.

In the visiting offense, Lee netted a 'hat trick' of three goals and assisted on another. Downs fired home two scores. Travis Getz produced a goal and an assist.

Jordan Getz and Michael Schonhiutt had the other two Cardinals goals, while Jamison Smith assisted on the other visitors score.

Goalie Jake Lilly saved 12 Lions shots on goal.

Lindenwood received three goals apiece from Sam Heaton and Colin Dornek.

WJU will be right back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 28, in a 3 p.m. match against Maryville (Mo.).
